2005 Barolo Gavarini Vigna Chiniera, Elio Grasso, Piedmont

2005 Barolo Gavarini Vigna Chiniera, Elio Grasso, Piedmont

The sandy soils of Gavarini make a different style of Barolo than the clay based soils of Ginestra. Matured in large Slovenian botte, the colour is deep and the nose somewhat unevolved. The palate has very fine tannins supporting rich fruit, but in a refined style. Floral, but with real concentration, there is good volume here, allied to great balance. This is the epitome of great Grasso winemaking.
