2005 Barolo Ginestra Vigna Case Maté, Elio Grasso, Piedmont

Exactly the same treatment in wood as the Vigna Chiniera, but the clay based soil gives a more opulent, exotic nose of spice and tobacco. This has a lovely purity running right through it and great balance. The tannins are in the background, but the clarity of fruit overwhelms them.
Typical of the Grasso style, where everything is done to allow the vineyard identity to speak for itself.
