2005 Barolo Bricat, Giovanni Manzone, Piedmont

2005 Barolo Bricat, Giovanni Manzone, Piedmont

Bricat is a small enclave within Gramolere and a top flight vineyard. Manzone's vines are 45 years old and the "Rose" clone of Nebbiolo is utilised to enhance the bouquet of the wine. This is more elegant than the Gramolere and tighter, with fine tannins tied into the structure. Understated in style, with some minerality, it is easy to underestimate this truly excellent wine. The 2004 was terrific, but this is better. Bricat is the best of a very strong trio from Giovanni Manzone.
