2001 Barolo Monprivato, Giuseppe Mascarello, Piedmont

2001 Barolo Monprivato, Giuseppe Mascarello, Piedmont

Greater depth of colour here in comparison to the San Stefano. The aromas suggest really vibrant red cherry, fully, ripe, soft-skinned fruits. There is a much silkier accent to the palate, almost a creamy texture and a broader mouthfeel. There is nothing harsh or aggressive here, a very complete style, with true harmony. Very fine, very long - with a glorious density of ripe fruit which masks the structure. The tannins are fine and unobtrusive yet will underpin this example for many years.
