2018 Burgstadter Spätburgunder, Fürst, Franconia

2018 Burgstadter Spätburgunder, Fürst, Franconia

Sebastian makes Pinot that's crying out to be drunk: this is the perfect case in point. It's mouthfilling and intense, but also saline and so moreish. Just a real delight to behold.

Tasting notes

The 2018 Bürgstadter Berg Spätburgunder includes grapes of the grands crus Centgrafenberg and Hundsrück and opens with a more toasty/oaky bouquet of super ripe and juicy cherries. Silky textured, very intense and also powerful on the palate, this is a big and tight, firmly structured and rather tannic Pinot that has been aged in 25% new barriques. This is a charming, even smooth and sweetish Pinot trio from the Centgrafenberg and at least 35% Hundsrück. Terribly fresh, salty and tensioned. Great aging potential and pretty close to the GG level. Tasted as a barrel sample in January 2020. To be bottled in April this year.
