2016 Recher Herrenberg Spätburgunder, Jean Stodden, Ahr
From Stodden’s most famous site, this has nice depth and lovely intensity. It’s fine, with a touch of spice, and textured. I love the tension here: so nicely balanced and cool, with a touch of graphite on the finish. Quite Gevrey in character, but it’s that nerviness and depth that’s so alluring. They’ve aged it in 30% new oak, with 60% in two year old barrels and the rest in three year old barrels. 13.5% ABV.
