It could be all too easy to dismiss the fruitier examples of Riesling such as spätlese in an attempt to remain in step with current vogue, but to do so without first experiencing one of Donnhöff’s masterful examples would be a grave mistake. The southerly facing grey slate and sandstone slopes of Norheim give fuller bodied and more expressive style of Riesling. With a melange of white peach, apple blossom, orange peel and sweet spice, this is more full bodied and exotic than the Oberhäuser yet possesses similar poise and freshness. Yet another great example of why Helmut & Cornelius are the masters of Nahe.
