This is a taut, tense, and refined vintage release from Pol Roger. 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay from grands and premiers crus sites make for a classic Pol blend. The nose is elegant and restrained, but as it opens up hints at the power and precision one only finds in the best examples. Notes of candied citrus peel and ground ginger lead to a taut palate that is driven by a nervous, tingling acidity, enrobed by some creamy fruit. This is a restrained, and potentially long-lived, vintage release. It will please those who appreciate the quiet, restrained power of a cool, classical vintage.
