Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau remarks that their aim is to make sweet wines that “have balance with high acidity, not a confiture… Chateau d’Yquem is very good, but heavy. These wines aim at something a little more Germanic in style.” That is certainly the case in this rare 2009 Les Jardins de Babylone which is deliciously sweet and harmonious with a vein of mineral freshness. Elegant aromas of peach, apricot and lemon zest combine with almond and marzipan which lead to a palate that is both complex and delicate. The finish is bright and pure with soft caramel and a rosewater lift that will surely develop with grace and charm.
