2005 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc, Clos des Papes

2005 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc, Clos des Papes

A blend of near equal proportions of the six white varieties, Picpoul, Bourbelenc, Clairette, Picardin, Roussanne and Marsanne. The wine sees no oak nor undergoes malolactic fermentation, in order to preserve valuable acidity. Golden straw in hue, this offers fragrant aromas of pear, peach and floral notes too. Quite generous, the palate reveals fine complexity with ripe, fresh apricot, crisp green fruits, toasted almond and peach kernel characters. Pure, layered and refined, there is a stony touch of minerality here too. This shows fabulous persistence; a remarkably complex and fine white châteauneuf-du-pape.
