2016 Hermitage Domaine des Tourettes, Delas Frères

2016 Hermitage Domaine des Tourettes, Delas Frères

Winemaker Claire Darnaud says this cuvée, from the l'Ermite, Sabot and Bessards lieux-dits, has come on leaps and bounds since they switched to organic methods. It feels slightly backward at present, but there’s so much precision and complexity to the finish already.

Tasting notes

Far less open than their Les Bessards on the nose, and not as ripe either. Still plenty of weight and shape on the palate. Should last plenty of time in bottle – indeed, it needs several years before the flavours will really flourish. Manicured tannin will be drinkable soon. An excellent effort.

With an impressive female winemaker, Claire Darnaud, at the helm since 2010 (though with experience there dating back to 1996), and considerable investment in the cellar to move to the historic town centre, the wines here are some of the more refined in the region. Careful never to use more than 40% new oak, Claire is a master of her craft.
