Of all the fantastic wines in Chapoutier’s Selection Parcellaires, Côte-Rôtie La Mordorée was the hardest wine to spit. It was totally and utterly glorious and I would happily have finished my glass. Exotic fruit on the nose and palate might make you think there was some Viognier in the blend, but unusually for a Côte-Rôtie, this is 100% Syrah. This seductive beauty has fabulous concentration and a wonderful texture, but it is the perfect balance that makes this wine so special. I don’t doubt for a minute that this wine will age fantastically well, but if I had a case in my reserves, it would be lucky to see in the new year! In a word, stunning!
