2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Hauts-Lieux, Domaine de la Vieille Julienne

2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Hauts-Lieux, Domaine de la Vieille Julienne

Jeb Dunnuck (The Wine Advocate) calls this his ‘total rock star’ of the vintage and against ‘Les Trois Sources’, is noticeably more serious and elegant, owing to the higher altitude of the vineyard and cooler, limestone soils; it also boasts no less than forty percent 80-90 year old vines and a group of centenarians in the pack. No doubt it will benefit from more time, but the opulent fruits-of-the-forest aromas are irresistibly dazzling, and its Burgundy-esque, silky structure lends to its quality and drinkability.

95 points, The Wine Advocate
