2010 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, La Combe des Fous, Clos St. Jean

2010 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, La Combe des Fous, Clos St. Jean

This wine comes from a 13 hectare plot in what is known as the ‘Valley of Fools’ – so called when, in the early 20th Century, the founder of Clos St Jean attempted to plant vines in a small area covered by huge stones just south of the village. Perceived to be madness at the time, today, this is among the most sought-after land in the appellation. Incredible aromatics, displaying dark fruit character, opening up to black pepper and pot pourri. Raspberries, blackberries, strawberry and cherry are redolent on the palate with a delightfully uplifting acidity leading to a floral, lavender-driven finish. Full-bodied, firmly-structured and supremely elegant, this is a spectacular cuvée that will go the distance.
