This wine is usually made of 100% Grenache from very old vines grown on sand and clay soil covered in large ‘galet’ stones. However, owing to the very small crop of Grenache in 2010, Thierry Usseglio has added 20% Syrah to the cuvée, which lends an attractive dark intensity and backbone. Blackberry, cassis, liquorice and Christmas spices create a wine of superb balance, complexity and freshness. The new oak is beautifully integrated supporting the fabulously rich, full-bodied and juicy fruit. A bold and delightfully proportioned wine from this very talented winemaker.
