2007 Cornas, Vieilles Vignes, Alain Voge

2007 Cornas, Vieilles Vignes, Alain Voge

Voge opted not to make their signature wine in 2007 - not on qualitative grounds, but because the terroir expression between their oldest parcel, Les Vieilles Fontaines, and the other old vine parcels was not sufficiently different to justify it. Therefore, the fruit from Les Vieilles Fontaines is included here. Deep, dark cherry aromas, with notes of crushed rock emerge from the glass. On the palate, there is a glossy sense of layered deep fruit, very expressive, with beautiful purity. Mineral nuances meld with lipsmacking dark cherry fruit, and sleek, fine grained tannins serve to create a seamless impression. There is such stunning elegance to this wine, it is hard to reference this to the modern, worked, oaky styles of Cornas or even the unpleasant rusticity of yesteryear.
