The 2001 vintage differs to Sorrel's 2000 Crozes-Hermitage, since he has taken the step of largely destemming the Syrah employed. Stems while adding valuable tannin at times, can also add a more vegetal/ herbal accent to fruit. The 2001 therefore reveals a more vibrant accent to its deep fruit. Dark cherry and ripe brambly fruit are once more in evidence but in a more substantial frame than previously. Still a traditional styled Crozes with pleasing elegance, there is a greater sense of volume that strikes a balance with the natural vibrancy than Sorrel is able to capture.
