2019 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves, Domaine de Montille

2019 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves, Domaine de Montille

This is one of the finest sites in Beaune, and de Montille’s wine is exemplary. The majority comes from very old vines, and the nose of this 2019 is so fragrant and perfumed, with a lightly spiced note. A well-judged one-third whole bunch gives the body agility and finesse. This is a terrific wine, savoury, mineral, bright and fresh, with the structure for graceful ageing.

Tasting notes

The 2019 Beaune Grèves 1er Cru includes around 50% whole cluster fruit. It is much more broody and backward on the nose compared to the Les Perrières, the fruit slightly darker. The palate is medium-bodied with ferrous-tinged red fruit, a little fuller than Les Perrières, though without quite the same degree of mineralité on the finish.
