2014 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Bel-Air, Domaine Taupenot-Merme

2014 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Bel-Air, Domaine Taupenot-Merme

Sitting atop Clos de Bèze (on different soil) and aside Ruchottes, on more or less the same soil, Bel Air must be Gevrey-Chambertin’s best located Premier Cru. Indeed, given the similarities to Ruchottes, Romain is adamant that this could be Grand Cru. This has violets on the nose with a certain elegance and lovely definition. The palate is fleshy with pepper spice adding complexity to the juicy but well focussed finish. Superb.
