2004 Château Rousseau de Sipian Rosé, Bordeaux
A rosé offer would not be complete without something from Bordeaux. This is a new estate to Lay & Wheeler and one we feel that shows great promise. Strawberry pink in colour this has a delightful nose of summer berries with the characteristic plum and cassis notes of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The palate has a good volume of fruit and a pleasing bite of crisp, mineral acidity at the end coupled with the gentlest suggestion of tannin. Fruity and refreshing – just what a good rosé! This has a little more structure than some and as such is a great food wine. The acidity and very subtle tannins will make this a great partner to grilled meats. Try it too with fish soup or grilled mushrooms with rosemary and thyme.
