2018 Château Rahoul, Graves

2018 Château Rahoul, Graves

Notes of dark berries and violets, as well as plums and lovely silky tannins. Very long. Likely excellent value again in 2018.

Tasting notes

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Rahoul begins a little closed, opening out to fragrant scents of wild blueberries, black cherries and mulberries plus hints of underbrush, tobacco and crushed rocks. Medium to full-bodied, it has a firm, fine-grained texture and bags of black fruit with a long, earthy finish.

Blackberry and blackcurrant aromas lead to a palate with good freshness and grip. There's plenty of depth and lots to enjoy here, with good tannic hold combining with an approachability and a high kick of freshness through the finish. This has structure, personality and confidence. Since 2007, Dourthe has uprooted a lot of the Merlot vines and replanted with Cabernet Sauvignon, and it's definitely paying off.

Another excellent Rahoul with plenty of rich fruit and hints of chocolate. Medium to full body and round, velvety tannins. Flavorful finish.
