Tasting notes

A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Pindefleurs is a little mute to begin, unfurling to reveal notes of crushed black cherries, fresh red and black plums and boysenberries with touches of fried herbs, tilled soil and mossy bark. Medium-bodied, elegantly played and refreshing in the mouth, it has an approachable, chewy frame and loads of lively red fruit and herbal sparks on the finish.

There's lovely sweetness to the fruit here, softening the concentration and grip. It has fresh acids and a sense of vibrancy. A good quality wine, not quite as generous as some in the vintage and is more serious, particularly within the grand cru category. On gravel and clay-limestone soils.

A tight and fresh red with dark-berry, walnut and chocolate character. Medium body. Juicy finish.

The 2018 Pindefleurs is a very pretty wine that brings together the generous personality of the vintage and a mid-weight sense of structure. Understated and beautifully persistent in the glass, Pindefleurs has a lot to offer. Silky, polished tannins give the 2018 energy and vibrancy to back up the inky blue/purplish berry fruit. Hints of lavender, spice and mint add perfume to this super-appealing, mid-weight Saint-Émilion. Tasted two times.
