2014 Château Ausone, 1er Grand Cru Classé (A) St-Emilion

2014 Château Ausone, 1er Grand Cru Classé (A) St-Emilion

Always a highlight of our primeurs trip, Ausone rarely fails to impress, and the 2014 is no exception. Very deeply coloured, it shows intriguing Chinese spice and a superbly pure core of black fruit, with just a hint of floral character to lift the whole. This gorgeously seductive nose is followed on the palate by a breathtaking richness and expansive, mouthfilling texture. The tight and firm structure of ripe and fine-grained tannins keeps the whole firmly in line and promises excellent ageing potential. Once the first layers of flavour subside, a lovely juiciness to the fruit appears, as well as an almost ethereal perfume on the finish, which expands and lingers for an age. Absolutely magnificent, this is not a bruiser, rather it is effortlessly elegant and powerful.
