Pichon Baron describe the 2012 vintage as being the vintage "where we had to fight on all fronts"; that being the case, they seem to have won! The resulting wine is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot and is a very pure and quite classically-styled Pauillac, with plenty of fresh, cassis fruit and a dense, velvety texture on the mid-palate. The tannins are firm and structural, but they - like the oak - are masked by the ripeness of the fruit at the core of this intense and delicious wine. (Robert Parker score 90-93)
