2010 Château d'Armailhac, Cru Classé Pauillac

2010 Château d'Armailhac, Cru Classé Pauillac

This year the blend is a mixture of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. We tasted it at Mouton in a flight with its relatives and, like most, it displayed an austere Cabernet character to the fore. This slightly antiseptic quality gives rise to a powerful mid-palate, showing the (desirable) mix of ripe dark fruit, crisp acidity and mouthfilling tannins. This balance is crucial this year and is distinctly different to the opulence of 2009. The jury is still out as to which is superior but both will be long-lived and are at the top of the quality tree.
