2010 Vieux Château Certan, Pomerol

2010 Vieux Château Certan, Pomerol

Alexandre Thienpoint is a quiet man and the tasting at Vieux-Chateau-Certan is a low-key affair. Perhaps this modesty is reflected in the wine itself, which is far from showy and yet would without doubt be a contender for our wine of the vintage. Deeply scented on the nose, with appealing notes of dark berry fruit and violets. The core of fruit here is dense, deep and enticing, balanced by finely honed tannins and mineral vein of freshness. There is nothing over-extracted, overplayed or overt in this wine, everything is held in balance, making this a perfect, elegant Pomerol.
