The wine is completely opaque, and the nose is quite closed. However, there is the unmistakeable dusty character of ripe Cabernet and hints of sweet fruit. On the palate, what is apparent straightway is the gorgeous mouthfeel and extraordinarily fine tannins, followed by intense savoury richness from the 100% new oak. Compared with 2009, there is less exuberant opulence, but more purity, more intensity and more freshness. It's this freshness which lifts the 2010 into the stratosphere - without it the massive concentration could appear clumsy, but with it we have a hugely impressive, sophisticated, subtle wine of great finesse. In summary 2010 Margaux is certainly one of, if not the wine of the vintage.
