2009 Château Pavie, 1er Grand Cru Classé St-Emilion

2009 Château Pavie, 1er Grand Cru Classé St-Emilion

Typically one of the most contentious wines in Bordeaux, owing to Gérard Perse’s low yield, highly-extracted, concentrated style. This year though it’s probably less ‘out there’ than in other years. Just 80% new barrels were used for maturation, not 100% as in many other top properties. Very savoury, and attractively spicy. Big flavours, big, mouth-coating tannins. Altogether a massive wine, but very fine quality.

Robert Parker: 96-100 points (Wine Advocate 188)
