2009 Château Margaux, 1er Cru Margaux

2009 Château Margaux, 1er Cru Margaux

This is a perfect assemblage of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot 9%, Cabernet Franc 2% and Petit Verdot 2%. Paul Pontallier said that the Cabernet Sauvignon was so perfect that it dictated the style of the wine. Very dark in the glass and the nose is both focused and sensational, indicating immediately that this is going to be a monumental wine. There is great intensity and concentration, but allied to a disarming lightness, a combination that works so brilliantly. This is a very refined Margaux; the tannins are some of the highest recorded at Château Margaux, but they are barely perceptible within the wine. Great length, with a real vein of minerality from the Cabernet Sauvignon. Supple, silky and seamless. This has such breadth it totally convinces from every aspect. Flawless and with perfect symmetry, this wine could not have been better.

Robert Parker: 98-100 points (Wine Advocate 188)
