2008 Château Cos d'Estournel, Cru Classé St-Estèphe

2008 Château Cos d'Estournel, Cru Classé St-Estèphe

Comprising 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Merlot, with the balance Cabernet Franc, this is deep and opaque in the glass. The aromas here are instantly appealing, sweet, scented cassis, with background notes of toast. A deep, dense core of fruit lies at the heart of this wine, which shows such effortless intensity. Layer upon layer of sweet ripe black fruit, currant and cherry, framed in toasted oak. Gravelly, mineral notes course across a seamless palate. This is not of blockbuster proportion, but does not lack substance. Wonderfully harmonious and precise, the tannins are silken, almost slippery, yet adding fine definition. A long, pure, stylish ‘Cabernet driven’ Cos that shows in a far juicier, fleshier manner than many recent vintages. This is of First Growth stature without a shadow of a doubt and ranks as one of the wines of the vintage. Robert Parker: 94-96
