2008 Château Margaux, 1er Cru Margaux

2008 Château Margaux, 1er Cru Margaux

Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the 2008 vintage of Ch. Margaux, as it did in 2006, here comprising 87% of the blend, with 10% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot. The aromas suggest soft-skinned berry fruit, sweet and ripe. A refined style, with a juicy, fresh nature and a taut mineral vein. The assertive nature of the Cabernet really comes through on the palate, lending a firm backbone, plenty of precision and direction. There are notes of leafy, peppery, black fruit, underbrush and cedar, as well as an admirable density to this wine. A pure and well-defined vintage, which bears some similarity to both 2004 and 2006 according to Paul Pontallier.
