2005 Château Clerc Milon, Cru Classé Pauillac

2005 Château Clerc Milon, Cru Classé Pauillac

It is immediately apparent that this is from the same winemaking stable as first growth Mouton-Rothschild. The blend here comprises 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, a little Petit Verdot and the seldom seen Carmenère. Sweet, open attractive red and dark berry fruits on the nose, with a note of creamy vanillin. There is a sense of opulence on the palate with characters of soft fleshy summer fruits, blackcurrant and toast. It reveals good substance on the mid-palate, but is nonetheless much more elegant than the norm here with no harsh edges, just a little firm, yet fine tannin on the finish. A more than worthy inclusion – our first purchase for some time. Very good indeed.
