2005 Château Ausone, 1er Grand Cru Classé (A) St-Emilion

2005 Château Ausone, 1er Grand Cru Classé (A) St-Emilion

2005 Ausone comprises a blend of 55% Cabernet Franc and 45%
Merlot. It is intense, vivid and certainly opaque in the glass. The aromas
are very expressive with ripe damson, plum and blackberry to the fore,
with a creamy, toasty nuance from new oak elevage. The palate exhibits
great volume – a bold statement indeed, with heady, expansive, opulent
fruit, like fresh damson jam, sweet ripe nature and very seductive. There
is a fine acidity that balances out well as does much to retain poise,
typically firm and mineral to the finish. This is very much in the Michel
Rolland style, a bold wall of fruit, very substantial, but there is a marked
sense of finesse in this vintage and finish that persists for some
considerable time. Drink 20 – 40
