2004 Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux, Margaux

2004 Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux, Margaux

Pavillon Rouge is the result of strict selection, encompassing parcels that have delivered less-structured wines, invariably drawn from younger vine plots than the grand vin. Anything missing the cut for the 'second' wine is sold off as generic production, thus ensuring the quality of Pavillon as much as Château Margaux itself. Comprising 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, the 2004 Pavillon is lustrous and bright in the glass and offers aromas of fragrant red berry and subtle spice. The palate possesses a marked creamy texture – generous with a velvety harmony. There is nothing harsh here, instead a well-proportioned, classically-styled example of the Margaux appellation. This exudes a finesse above its stature with a vibrant fresh core of pure-natured fruit. As consistent as ever.
