We have followed the progress of this historic St-Estèphe property since it was purchased by Louis Roederer in the mid-1990s. Wine-maker Philippe Moureau commented that picking was completed by 23rd September – one day before commencement of the vintage in 2002. The assemblage of de Pez comprises virtually equal proportions of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with a dash of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The wine displays richness of black fruits – cherries and plums are apparent, Merlot dominating the perfume at this stage of evolution. Grippy tannins are in evidence, so too richness and we admire the natural, fresh characteristics which flow through the palate.
