The 2013 Phelps Pinot Noir from the Pastorale vineyard needs some coaxing: it’s best if you decant it in advance. But with air come notes of briar and wild cherries, while the palate is grippy but very fine. There’s nice ripeness to the fruit, and the finish is long and focussed. Very good indeed, and a bargain at this price.
