2010 Amon-Ra Shiraz, Glaetzer, Barossa Valley

2010 Amon-Ra Shiraz, Glaetzer, Barossa Valley

The nose is of dark fruit, with a touch of coffee spice and an impression of garrigue and dried lavender. On the palate, a dense core of velvet-textured black fruit is given complexity by notes of clove-spice, dark chocolate and a touch of fresh mint. The tannins are undoubtedly robust, but incredibly fine and ripe and given lift and surprising poise by a freshening acidity. All-in-all, this is a master-class in balance, as while this is undoubtedly a powerful wine, it comes across as almost weightless on the finish.
