Dirk Niepoort’s flagship red wine with the fruit coming from 75 year old vines in the north facing vineyard Quinta do Carril as well as from even older vines (about 100 years) near Quinta de Nápoles. This exceptional wine illustrates the high quality of which the Douro is capable. This is one of Portugal’s most sought after wines and received 95 points from The Wine Advocate. Intense, focused, concentrated fruit. Ripe, fine grained tannin with grip and support for ageing. Beautifully balanced with a dense core of essence-like fruit and an underpinning mineral acidity which carries this wine to a sustained finish. Impeccably structured, elegant, and complex. Complete and very fine.
