2004 Brunello di Montalcino, Il Poggiolo

2004 Brunello di Montalcino, Il Poggiolo

Quite deep in colour with a distinctive nose of spicy plum, redcurrant and a slight gamey note. The palate is sweet and ripe and the oak is evident, but not at all dominant. This will drink well young, because the oak has rounded it out quite noticeably. The fruit is clean and fresh and the tannins are barely perceptible beneath the fresh fruit. This is modern and immediately appealing. Well-made with good balance. This has all the quality of the vintage, in a more accessible style.
