2010 Riesling Burgstall Federspiel, F.X. Pichler

Bright fresh and pleasing, with subtle apricot and floral characters on the nose. The palate is crisp and citrus based, with a slatey minerality giving some backbone to this light and subtle wine. Federspiel designation indicates an alcohol of between 11.5 and 12.5%. This would be fantastic with light seafood dishes and salads.

Weingut F.X. Pichler

Based in Austria’s most prestigious region, the Wachau, F.X. Pichler are one of the world’s foremost producers of Riesling and Grüner Veltliner. Franz Xaver (the eponymous F.X.) inherited the estate in 1971, and was instrumental in the rise to prominence of both his family’s winery and the Wachau. His son Lucas (the fifth generation) now makes the wine, but F.X. is still an active presence in the vineyards.
