N/V Brut Grand Cru Sillery, François Secondé (2019 Base Vintage)

N/V Brut Grand Cru Sillery, François Secondé (2019 Base Vintage)

This wine from François Secondé has become one of the best value finds of our grower champagne search: it offers a pretty and open nose, floral and vinous at the same time. The palate has a deliciously creamy, lemon sherbert character which culminated with a long creamy finish. Winemaking history in Sillery, on the Montagne de Reims, goes back centuries, but today it is little known by those outside Champagne. But the value on offer in this brilliant wine from the village's only quality grower means it's well worth seeking out. With the base of the wine built around the excellent 2019 vintage, this will age well.

Tasting notes

The latest release of the NV Brut Grand Cru Sillery offers up notes of warm biscuits, ripe yellow citrus, gingerbread, dried white flowers and peach, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy but incisive palate with good concentration, ripe but tangy acids and a youthfully frothy mousse, concluding with a long, precise finish. This is a serious Sillery from Séconde that's well worth seeking out. It's a blend of two-thirds Pinot Noir and one-third Chardonnay that was finished with eight grams per liter dosage.
