2011 Les Fontanilles, Minervois, Domaine Anne Gros & Jean-Paul Tollot
Anne Gros is better known for her sought-after wines from the Côte de Nuits, but – here – she has teamed up with fellow Burgundian Jean-Paul Tollot, to make some extraordinary Minervois reds. Fontanilles is a blend of Syrah, Carignan, Cinsault and Grenache, showing notes of hedgerow fruit and a touch of wood smoke on the nose. The tannins on the palate are fine and ripe, balanced by a rich core of autumnal berries and a lovely freshness on the finish. Charming and delicious, this has a lingering finish of juicy blackberries.
