2021 Arpent des Vaudons, Touraine Sauvignon, Jean-François Mérieau

2021 Arpent des Vaudons, Touraine Sauvignon, Jean-François Mérieau

This great value wine from Touraine is fruity and fresh, with just an edge of Sauvignon’s vegetal green tea notes. Jean-François explains he likes to play with the natural bitterness of Sauvignon Blanc, brilliantly controlled in this example.

Tasting notes

The richly fruited 2021 L’Arpent des Vaudons has ripe plum notes with a vibrant texture and saline notes in the finish. Impressive for the vintage. The Jean-François Mérieau domaine now has more than 35ha on the left side of the Cher Valley. The winery is based in Montrichard at the famous Cave de la Boule Blanche, which used to belong to négociant and grower Paul Buisse. Jean-François Mérieau took over the family domaine in 2000 after working for a number of well-known vignerons like Patrick Ducournau in Madiran and fellow Loire producer Alphonse Mellot. He and his wife Emilie now run it together. The domaine is now in conversion to organic viticulture. This Sauvignon comes from a 9ha parcel that faces south/southeast with vines aged 10-60 years old. It is vinified in stainless steel.
