2014 Sancerre Chavignol, Pierre Martin

2014 Sancerre Chavignol, Pierre Martin

Picking out just one Sancerre from 2014 is tough, but Pierre Martin’s effort from Chavignol is likely to turn heads. Neighbour to celebrated winemaker Fraçois Cotat yet at a fraction of the price, the immense purity and sheer class from this are otherwise unrivalled. His 2014 is unsurprisingly both textural and mouthfilling, and altogether sublime.

Pierre Martin

Based in the village of Chavignol, a few kilometres up the road from Sancerre itself, Pierre Martin is a talented young winemaker who is making his mark. He shares these steep slopes, including those of his vineyards Culs de Beaujeu and Les Monts Damnés, with celebrated producer François Cotat, and his wines are now reaching this very top level themselves. With only small volumes produced of incredibly impressive wines, Pierre Martin is rightfully fast garnering an excellent reputation.
