2005 Hermitage Blanc, Domaine du Colombier
The nose reveals notes of wet-stone, lees and fine ripe white fruits, slightly floral, but abundantly juicy. On the palate there is a real sense of Burgundian refinement, a terrific mineral vein and wonderfully silky fine-tuned fruit. The intensity builds, but there is always restraint, nothing heady here, it is long and flowing with layers of fresh apricot and peach allied to racy minerality and gently nutty nuances. This refuses to fade for some considerable time. Pure and precise, this is an exemplary white hermitage. Stunning.
