2010 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Cuvée Félix, Domaine Bois de Boursan

2010 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Cuvée Félix, Domaine Bois de Boursan

This is a significant cuvée that will require plenty of patience but is truly a star of the appellation. Hailing from 90-year-old vines and a blend containing 70% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre and 5% Syrah, the concentration is astonishing. Even at this young age, the scent is powerful, ripe and intense, boasting juicy bilberries, kirsch and black cherry along with lavender, rich dark-chocolate and coffee beans. On the palate, it is warm, sweet, succulent and wild but with serious, grippy tannins and a savoury nature. The finish has a touch of smokiness to it – reminiscent of gunflint and leather. There is so much to offer here, it can only continue to evolve with time – and what a treat that will be.
