2007 Vacqueyras, Cuvée Lopy, Domaine le Sang des Cailloux
In common with many fine wines of the southern Rhône it is perhaps not unsurprising that a parcel of old-vine Grenache forms the heart of this top-cuvée, in this case blended with Syrah. The wine carries the sweetness of small berry fruit, redcurrants and blackcurrants, with purity and focus. Finely-judged extraction gives a silky mouthfeel with fine lightly-gripping tannin. This wine illustrates the virtues of elegant Vacqueyras. Very fine quality.
