2006 Hermitage Rouge, Domaine du Colombier

This small domaine produces striking hermitage and crozes-hermitage from its 13 hectares of vines. Never brash or overstated, the wines here reveal terrific finesse. Its hermitage is tremendously concentrated with an almost opaque intensity. There is a lifted nose here, offering up grilled meats and a hint of prune together with a delicate floral touch and a deeply attractive elegance. On the palate the rich, velvety fruit is balanced perfectly by very fine tannins. The freshness, purity and balance here is exemplary. An exceptionally fine effort in 2006.
