2005 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Deux Frères, Pierre Usseglio

2005 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Deux Frères, Pierre Usseglio

Showing terrific depth in the glass, this is near opaque. On the nose there are notes of dark cherry fruit coupled with a savoury, almost earthy mineral accent. The palate reveals fine density; undoubtedly a rich wine, but still with a cool sense of ripeness and silky, fine tannins. The texture is thick and glossy, and there is an enlivening note of acidity to lend valuable lift. Really pronounced characters of macerated black cherry and blackberry linger on as do meaty, peppery, more savoury characters. A modern interpretation of châteauneuf-du-pape, and a hugely successful one at that.
