2019 Chablis 1er Cru La Forêt, Jean-Claude et Romain Bessin

2019 Chablis 1er Cru La Forêt, Jean-Claude et Romain Bessin

Initially this is a little shy, but a quick swirl releases an intense nose of classical saline lime and apple. There is a harmony here between the ripeness of the vintage, with ripe stone fruit, and the nervous freshness of this style of Chablis. Fennel and fresh flowers weave through the texture of the wine. This is excellent.

Tasting notes

This is presently quite firmly reduced and aromatically unreadable. Otherwise there is obvious muscle and punch to the denser and more powerful middle weight plus flavors that are shaped by lemon-tinged acidity on the saline, bone dry and youthfully austere finish. This needs to develop more depth, but it's undoubtedly built to reward medium-term cellaring that thus more complexity should easily develop. Very promising.
